Mia DuVall

Artist, Muralist & Creative Director with an established practice spanning large-scale murals, portraiture, illustration, and design. My work treats fine art, graphic design, fashion, and popular culture as interconnected languages. I work at any scale, in any medium, on any surface, making work that is seductive and unsettling, luxurious and critical, for audiences who deserve work that doesn't behave the same for everyone.

PRACTICE

My work explores the aesthetics that emerge when limitation becomes discipline, when scarcity generates excess, when survival requires shine. Working through large-scale murals, portraiture, illustration, brand identity, and expanded media, I examine the visual systems Black Americans developed in the late 1970s through 1990s.

Glamour is survival architecture.

Style is discipline.

Excess is intelligence.

Rather than separating fine art from design, fashion, or popular culture, I treat them as interconnected languages through which power is negotiated. Scale, surface, and material experimentation operate as content, not ornament or decoration.

This work is for multiple audiences with layered experiences. It should not behave the same for everyone.
